I am a Trial Attorney, Trial Consultant, and Co-Counsel, with experience in both civil and criminal litigation.
I grew up in Oxnard, California, where my parents were and still are English and Special Education teachers in public schools. Through the stories of my parents' students I learned a great deal about inequity and injustice, which are sadly endemic to the legal and social fabric of our fine country. The promise of our constitution, the principles of our nation, and the experience I've had with jurors - American citizens - all indicate that we can do better. My belief that we can do better led me to become a trial attorney, where I am given the chance to fight injustice every day on behalf of my clients.
I went to college at the University of Southern California and then to Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. When I graduated, I moved home to practice in Ventura County, CA, where I had the chance to work closely with a family friend and lifelong mentor. In that time, i worked frequently with Spanish speaking clients and in criminal courts, deepening my passion for fighting injustice and my skills at trial. I am currently based in Pasadena, California. I practice with close friends, trusted and gifted lawyers, some of whom are among the most respected attorneys in this nation. I am a member of the California State Bar and the Wyoming State Bar. I an also a member of CAALA and a graduate of and teacher at Trial Lawyers' College.
I am angry with the current state of injustice. Insurance companies reap billions in profit while all too often shirking responsibility when claims are made. Think of this example: we are required by law to carry auto liability insurance. This law protects all of us by giving us the security of knowing that if someone injures us in an accident, there will be someone there to pay for the damage. It's a fine law. But it also greatly benefits the insurance industry: they are given captive customers, customers who have paid their hard earned money so that they can have the security of knowing any claim made will be paid. That's the deal. When insurance companies fight a legitimate claim, as they often do, they are shirking this responsibility to the detriment of us all. They break the rules and refuse to pay, while we obey the rules and pay them for our policies. From these broken promises, they grow wealthy and use their wealth to hire expensive lawyers to fight those who are powerless to protect themselves. I believe that we must all be accountable for our own actions and we must hold others accountable for theirs. This is justice. I fight for those who need and deserve such justice.
It is my belief that in order to be just we must be humane. Humanity requires accountability and respect. We feel most respected when we know that we have been seen, we have been heard. I am committed to helping people be seen, truly seen, by others, so that their story can be heard, and their wrongs can be righted. I am dedicated to this process not only to help individuals, but also to do my part to force powerful and self-interested rule breakers to change the way they operate by taking the profit out of breaking the rules.
